To start off the new blog I have decided to post a video of the corneal suturing portion of a penetrating keratoplasty. This video will serve as a video demonstration of the techniques and principles of the following posts. I will post more videos in the future but this will demonstrate suture and needle handling in addition to the basic technique. The video is silent, without sound, the explanations will be in the following posts.
In this video, the ring has already been attached. I demonstrate the technique for centration on the pupil, a handheld trephination, trimming of the host cornea, basting sutures and the torque antitorque suture technique. Pay special attention to the management of sutures, execution of the slip knot and the technique for properly grasping the needle.
